Rock solid is how most experts would define the mid-year Corvette market. It appears that the demand for 1963-67 Corvettes has been completely unaffected by the rest of the world’s economic issues, and today there are few smarter places to park your money. And if you’re going to invest, be sure to do it right and get a documented, pedigreed car that will continue to appreciate with the market, a car such as this stunning Milano Maroon 1965 L84 coupe. With 100% matching numbers, a documented and detailed restoration, as well as simply being a wonderful car to drive, it’s one of the best early Corvettes we’ve seen in a long, long time.
On a high-end Corvette like this, the restoration has to be first-rate, and this one certainly fits the bill. The Milano Maroon finish is two-stage urethane, which gives it a shine that will last practically forever, and you can forget about factory-style flaws, because this one is as smooth as glass.
The engine is the original HG code L84 block, with a radical Rochester fuel injection system. If you haven’t heard one of these snarling to 6000 RPM through a set of side pipes, you’re missing the best engine note this side of LeMans. Fully restored and expertly detailed, the engine bay is a symphony of correct finned aluminum and bright Chevy Orange paint. Even if you were packing a big block in 1965, this is an engine to be respected on the street.
Bright white vinyl is a great contrast to the somber Milano Maroon, and the way GM combined the white seats with the black carpets and dash creates one of the most stylish interiors of the era. The seats are so crisp and new that I’d be afraid to sit on them without a Tyvek suit. No detail was overlooked during the restoration of this Corvette.
