The Wooden Vine: Uptown Charlotte’s Wine And Tapas Sanctuary

Uptown Charlotte’s streets are alive and well. They were especially alive this past weekend because of the influx of basketball fans visiting from across the nation. It is always great to see the city prospering from such big name events like the NCAA tournament, but for me, it was slightly overwhelming. I found myself wanting to escape the loud, crowded, suit-and-uniform-laden concrete streets I usually embrace.

Luckily for me, not only are the streets of Charlotte alive and well, but they are so diverse with their offerings. I easily found my escape at the Wooden Vine, a wine and tapas bar located directly in the heart of the city. The Wooden Vine on Tryon, neighboring the historic Dunhill, is a humble, yet sophisticated space. When walking through the front doors of the establishment you feel as if you have been transported to the hills of Sonoma, Napa, or Bordeaux. The atmosphere immediately calms and comforts you.

Natural elements and neutral colors give the Wooden Vine its calm and comforting atmpsphere. From floor to ceiling, beautiful woods and colors intertwine to enhance your experience. Local art is displayed on the walls and even the unique wooden slab tables are artisan produced and for sale to the visitors. The restaurant and wine bar exudes local pride. Owner David Soper, Johnson & Wales graduate and somallier, emphasizes his belief in support of local food and wines with a fine wine selection and menu that reflects his fervor.

When visiting the Wooden Vine you can match a variety of tapas with recommended wines from an informed and knowledgable staff. Tapas and wine together give you the ability to get a multitude of tastes and flavors out of your dining experience. This unity also enhances the social aspects of the food and drink, allowing you to really share with the people around you.

The Wooden Vine is an uptown sanctuary that we all should take advantage of. Amidst the hustle and bustle one can relax in a different kind of liveliness, a liveliness shared between friends who enjoy fine wines, good conversation, and great food.
